Description
A stud conversion kit replaces your wheel bolts with studs and nuts, providing several advantages over the OEM wheel bolts:
- Lighter and stronger fixing method.
- Makes fitting / re fitting wheels MUCH easier and quicker.
- Prevents you from cross threading your wheel hubs, an expensive fix compared to the cost of these stud conversions. If you cross thread these studs on the wheel side, just replace the stud.
- Various size spacers can be used with the same stud kit (size range depending on which length kit chosen), no need to buy different length bolts when you remove/change size of spacers.
Features:
- OEM style black zinc finish
- M14x1.25 thread
- Up to 12 mm spacers with the 70 mm studs
- 10.9 grade hardness steel
Kit includes:
- 20 studs
- 20 nuts
With no spacers, recommended combinations are:
- 65 mm studs + 20 mm nuts
- 70 mm studs + 25 mm nuts
70 mm studs with 20 mm nuts can to be used with spacers up to 12 mm width.
Compatible with BMW F8x, F2x, F3x and other cars using M14x1,25.
Instructions:
- Go over all hub threads with a right-hand M14x1.25 die.
- On the section of thread that goes into the hub, apply a drop of Blue Loctite (Green may be used as an alternative, although it could affect future replacement).
- Tighten each stud to 20 Nm.
- The tolerance between nut and stud is intentionally lower than with other manufacturers. This is because the studs are zinc-plated: during the first tightening and loosening cycles, part of the zinc coating is displaced, which then increases the clearance to its correct operational value. If the nuts were manufactured with standard tolerance from the outset, there would be a risk of loosening under track use.
- For this reason, some initial resistance during the first tightening cycles is completely normal and should not cause concern. If a nut proves excessively difficult to thread, it may be used on an adjacent stud instead.
- The nuts must be torqued to 120–130 Nm, as specified by BMW in the manual.
Under no circumstances use an impact gun.
